I commend you for being honest about your selfishness and ignorance.
We don’t have accurate information on deaths, cases, or any other statistic. The media and both political parties have been a hysterical mess.
The illness itself is odd. Who gets it? (although it’s still mostly older people) When? How severe? Every places’s results have been different but not really dependent on the solution applied.
The rules we are making up are arbitrary and I’m not sure of their effectiveness. Restaurants and gyms especially. I’m concerned about how long we may have to follow them and how negatively it will effect our society.
I think long term we are opening up the government to dictate what happens with us medically or because medically and I see that as an infringement on rights. Vaccinations, privacy issues, ability to work are all at play in the future. Essential/nonessential is/was/never will or should be for them to decide especially if “they” are doing what “they” want. The education issue is going to be a huge one, I hope they get it right, I have little confidence they will. “Their” kids will be educated and well educated.
From my perspective, you are selfish. I make no demands nor do I publicly shame people for their thoughts or actions. You want to wear a mask, fine. You don’t, fine. If you are that uncomfortable being around no masked people or out maybe you should consider staying home and not imposing your values on anybody else. I’m perfectly happy to let people be in charge of themselves, and their health. I think it’s dangerous to make laws or rules you can’t enforce and you are seeing the conflicts. If you take them off at 18 months but somebody feels that's premature are you selfish.
Wisconsin might be as high as 75% mask free in restaurants and grocery stores from what I have seen. IL is like a different world from them. I don’t think this is as bad as you do. It’s not selfish, I see the same data and have interpreted it differently.
If you want to have a discussion I'm open to having one. This seems to be emotional rather than scientific for you. That's fine, but at least you could return the honesty.
I think the economy will be fucked by shutting down.
