Should be a very interesting tournament. If you follow golf and are on social media you have probably seen some of the video of the 5 inch tall rough and the greens are supposedly running at somewhere around 15-16 on the Stimp. Insane.

Even in computer golf ( WGT) , Oakmont is a fucking beast. Not a straight putt on that course if the renderings of the greens are accurate.

Can't wait. Looking forward to seeing the chaos. Hopefully come Sunday there are at least 2 of the big name guys in contention and we get to see them battle it out.

WGT is fun. Haven’t played in a while.

My friend is a Marshall on #9 all weekend. Hope to get good pics and stories.

My hope for the US Open is the same as always: no rain, and the second place score being -1.

If 4 of us went out and played there today, with no galleries, spotters, etc., how many balls would we lose just because they get buried 5 yards off the fairway?

I think we would be out of balls by about hole 5 and head to the clubhouse for drinks.

I don't really care about an over par winning score (but it seems like -2 -3 would be incredible), I just hope its a bunched leaderboard on the weekend.

I saw some posted shared on the Twitter that the last time the US Open was at Oakmont one guy (can't remember his name) had 17 bogeys and 6 doubles for the week, yet finished tied for 10th.

Dustin Johnson won with -4 in 2016 the last time it was played here.

First tee times tomorrow at 5:45 am. Hoping for a really competitive tournament that isn't too ridiculously unfair on the greens. The rough is one thing but watching balls roll off the greens and into bunkers and far away can get to be a bit much. A winning score around par would be really great. Other than Scheffler, guys that would be fun to see in the mix would be DeChambeau, Aberg, Straka, and Lowry. There will be a couple of guys you wouldn't expect as well that can strike their ball in the fairway a lot and hit greens. Will be interesting to see if any of the other LIV guys like Rahm can make any kind of impact. Cam Smith has pretty much disappeared after winning The Open and joining LIV.

yep, this is my rule for watching the US Open. I won't follow it if there are more than a few people under par. And if anyone is 5 under I turn it off.

-5 or +5, I enjoy watching when all the best are playing.

random side thought... a 289 yard par-3 is just stupid

Right. A bunched leaderboard is what I want to see. If there are 4 guys at -4 and one at -5 on Sunday at 2:00, thats gonna be a hellava show. You're missing out to turn that off.

Overly long par 3s are worthless. I'd like to see a tournament have an 80 or 90 yard par 3 with a ridiculously small green. Like 100sq foot.

Also, yikes;

Yeah I am with you fellas, I dont understand the mindset of only watching if the scores are at a certain level. A bunched leaderboard going into the last couple days is what makes it good. Courses and scores are going to vary.

I understand not wanting the US Open to be a birdiefest. There are plenty of those on Tour.

We'll see carnage for sure this weekend. If the storms stay away, I would venture to say we are likely to see over par scores in the top ten.

I abandoned the game because you would of had to spend gobs of money to drive a ball 250+ and every tournament is from the tips. and putting was near impossible IMO (again unless you spent 100 real dollars on a putter.)

I don't even think I'd run out of balls before quitting.

Agreed I would not spend real money.

It's the US Open. I want to see them suffer. Plenty of other tourneys all year where they can go -20 and the winner is determined by who got 4 eagles on all the par 5s each round.

Similarly I will only watch the British if the weather is bad.

correct. I get to sit and watch 4 days of guys shooting 30 under at the John Deere Classic. on a course i'm lucky to break 80's at. This is great anticipatory vengeance.
